Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Given the rapidly evolving situation around the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I wish to advise you that there will be a suspension of worship services at both the St Andrew and Good Shepherd until the pandemic passes. The Lutheran Church of Australia is abiding by Australian Government directives on assembly. As of this afternoon new social distancing rules announced by the Prime Minister of a minimum of 4 square metres per person are in force. This new directive effectively cancels out worship at St Andrews, and given we need to act in solidarity, Good Shepherd will also cease to meet. This has been decided after consultations with Bishop David Altus and Assistant Bishop Stephen Schultz.
In the coming days and weeks material will be made available on line via the LCA website and through circulated email links to support believers in devotion and personal worship activities. Please seek these out.
The Top End Lutheran Parish Committee will be meeting this weekend to discuss more local network efforts of mutual care and support in the Parish. There will be more to follow in this area.
Please remember – God’s love and eternal assurance is guaranteed and evidenced in the work of Jesus Christ regardless of the challenges that we face at this time. A light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:5).
Dr Warren Hunt
